"The Red Tree" by Year 12 IB Theatre students

The starting point for these performances was a story called "The Red Tree" and the exploration points stemmed from the approaches from various theatre companies. Our Y12 IB Theater students Vera Castro-Santos, Fidi Craveiro, Candy Liu, Moema Harle and Meggy Fernandes, created the piece through devising and experimental work.
We invite you to watch this 11-minute production which will speak for itself. The message and emotions are quite profound and according to some of the teachers who watched the live performance “quite moving”. To give you an idea of what the piece entails, here is a snippet shared by Meggy Fernandes: "Our play is going to be about 6 characters who are searching for something in life that they never seem to grasp. Once they finally reach it, they are greeted with disappointment and constant dissatisfaction, as what they were searching for isn't all it was cut out to be. This is something different for everybody, which is symbolised by "a red tree" in our play. Our play is connected to the philosophical pursuit of happiness (Aristotle) and materialism...Our target audience is teenagers and young adults who are still trying to figure out how the world works, what they want out of life, the purpose of life, what makes them happy and they tend to be more focused on materialistic possessions than older generations, who have experienced the real world outside of school and what it entails.
We want the audience to relate to the piece and think about how fulfilment and happiness come from within rather than from materialistic possessions."
