Preparing your child for a bright future

The application process involves five steps: register your interest, arrange a tour of the school, submit a formal application, complete an assessment for children applying for Year 3 / 2º ano and above followed by an interview, and then receive a decision from the Head who chairs the Admissions Committee. If a year group is full, applicants are placed on a waiting list. Since demand often exceeds available spaces, we advise families to submit their applications early. Most new students start at the beginning of the school year in September. Applications received at any time during the year are usually also considered, subject to availability. Generally, we do not accept applications for the final years of the IGCSE or IB DP/CP programmes.

Register your interest

Please contact the Admissions Office by completing the  form below. Our Admissions Office will send you detailed information including current availability, fees and the steps you will need to follow.

Book a visit

Please come and visit us for a tour of the school. A member of our Admissions Office team will give you a personal tour lasting around 30 minutes. Children are also warmly welcome, but we leave the decision to you. Your appointment will be scheduled based on availability and a time that ideally suits you. If you cannot visit in person, the Admissions Office can organise an online meeting to answer any questions. Please note, these visits and meetings are for information purposes only and do not constitute an offer or guarantee of a place.

Make a formal application

We encourage you to apply early as classes fill up quickly. There are usually very few places remaining after March. A child’s date of birth determines their enrolment year group.

To begin the formal process, please complete the online application form and pay the €250 application fee. This one-time fee covers administrative costs and is non-refundable.

Interview and assessment

Our Admissions Committee, chaired by the Head, reviews all applications continuously. They select which children and families will be invited for an interview. Attendance at interviews is compulsory for all applicants. Interviews commence in September for admission in the following academic year and continue throughout the year. We expect all interviews to take place at the school. If this is not possible, an online interview can be arranged. For places in Year 4 and 3º ano and above, all candidate children must complete an Admissions Assessment just before the interview. If children are unable to attend the assessment at St. Julian’s, the Admissions Office will contact their current school to organise a supervised assessment.

Acceptance

Acceptance for admission to St. Julian’s School is decided by the Head based on the advice of the Admissions Committee. The Admissions Office will notify parents of the decision in writing. Once a formal offer of enrolment is made, parents must sign the Parent School Agreement and pay both the Registration Fee and Capital Levy by bank transfer within 10 working days. The Registration Fee is €750 and the Capital Levy is €5,000.

Waiting lists
If a place cannot be offered, parents have the option to join the waiting list. The Admissions Office will maintain regular contact with families while they remain on the list.

Admission into Year 11

Students who have successfully completed 9º ano and wish to enter a one-year GCSE programme in Year 11 are required to have a final average of at least 3.75. Students who have already started the first year of the IGCSE programme at another school or are in the final year of the IB Middle Years Programme are generally not eligible to apply.

International Baccalaureate Programmes for Years 12 and 13

St. Julian’s is proud to be one of the first schools in Portugal to offer both the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (DP) and Career Path (CP). The CP pathway is usually only available to our current students transferring from Year 11. There are entry requirements for the IB DP can be found here.
