journey

St. Julian’s can take your child through their entire education journey, from ages 3 to 18 (Nursery to Year 13). We are not a ‘one size fits all’ school, and we offer flexible learning pathways for all our students. Families can choose between the English Curriculum and the Bilingual Curriculum. Our innovative, dual curriculum is a highly successful, mutually beneficial structure. Our native Portuguese speakers and Anglophone students learn and play together from a young age. There is no better way to learn a language, share culture, and develop lifelong friendships. This is reflected in exceptional examination results and language acquisition for both our native and non-Portuguese-speaking students, which ultimately grant access to world-class university destinations around the globe.

Two learning pathways

English Curriculum

Our English Curriculum begins with Nursery and goes right through to Year 13. Students follow the National Curriculum for England from 3 years old (entry is based on the child’s year of birth) leading to GCSE qualifications in Year 11 and then a choice of the International Baccalaureate Diploma or Career-related Programme in Years 12 and 13. Portuguese is an integral part of our programme and a compulsory subject up to the end of Year 9.

Bilingual Curriculum

The Portuguese National Curriculum is taught in both English and Portuguese from the age of 6 to 15 (1º to 9º ano). Our bilingual students are then seamlessly integrated into the English curriculum with a bespoke foundation programme leading to GCSE examinations before joining the IB programme in Year 12. Parents can choose this pathway from Reception or /Year 1, and we also welcome admissions from other schools. Both native Portuguese and non-Portuguese speakers graduate from the Bilingual section with outstanding language skills and international networks which will last a lifetime.

Non-Portuguese speaking parents can choose this option to turbo charge their child’s language acquisition by starting a younger child in the Portuguese section.
