FURTHER INFORMATION

St. Julian's Rugby Club

St. Julian's Rugby Club is a non-profit-making club, based at St. Julian's School but open to any young player from the local community, aged between 6 and 18 years old. The Club is an affiliated member of the Portuguese Rugby Federation and enters teams at six age groups in tournaments and social events. Our main aim is to enable players of all abilities and levels of experience to play rugby for the fun and enjoyment of the game itself. A team of qualified rugby coaches (mainly school teachers, parents of players and former pupils) provide the coaching, on a voluntary basis. The emphasis is on developing skills and fitness levels, as well as traditional rugby values of teamwork, sportsmanship, courage, self-discipline and respect.

St. Julian's Rugby Club was featured in a programme called "Total Rugby" that was shown on SportTV and Sky Sports in April 2008. The feature looks at the links between our rugby club and that of Escolinha de Rugby da Galiza, a club that, coincidentally, was founded on the same day. For many years now, St. Julian's School students have visited the A.T.L. da Galiza for the community service part of their C.A.S. programmes, and the Galiza rugby club is one of the many social integration projects organised by the centre. The Sky Sports piece quite literally catapulted our club to global fame, as it went out in 83 countries and was viewed by over 130 million people.
