KEY STAGE 2The KS2 curriculum follows on from the Key Stage 1 curriculum and provides continuity and progression of learning. For each subject in this Key Stage, programmes of study set out what pupils are taught, and attainment targets set out the expected standards of pupils' performance. An attainment target sets out the 'knowledge, skills and understanding which pupils of different abilities and maturities are expected to have by the end of the Key Stage. Attainment targets consist of a total of eight level descriptions of increasing difficulty. Each level, and sub-level, description describes the types and range of performance that pupils working at that level should characteristically demonstrate. The level descriptions provide the basis for making judgements about pupils' performance at the end of Key Stage 2. The majority of pupils are expected to work at Levels 2-5 in Key Stage 2 and attain level 4 at the end of the Key Stage whilst some may achieve level 5. During Key Stage 2 pupils are taught the same subject as in Key Stage 1 (see link). Some subjects may be taught by specialist subject teachers. Specialist subject teaching is delivered in the following subjects: Information and Communication Technology, Portuguese, Music and Physical Education. Teacher assessments are continuous and more formal evaluations are taken throughout the in Key Stage 2. Mid-Term teacher assessments take place in November and February in Mathematics, Reading and Spelling and at the end of each year Optional SATs are taken in all aspects of Literacy and Numeracy. There are three parent / teacher consultation meeting each year and a written annual report. As a parent, we believe you have a very important role to play in helping your children learn. The most important thing you can do is be interested in what your child is learning at school, and encourage them to tell you about it and explain it. Don't be afraid of doing the wrong thing. Remember, you can never go wrong by showing interest in your child's learning. Please take time to look on the Parent Handbook link for more detailed information about the Primary School. |
